Documentary Reveals Female Native American UFC Champion Nicco Montaño’s Dangerous Experience with Extreme Weight-Cutting with the UFC Performance Institute

WHAT:
Warrior CBD will present the world premiere of “Warrior Spirit,” a feature-length documentary production by D-House Entertainment about Nicco Montaño, the first Native American female UFC champion at the Las Vegas Premiere Film Festival on Friday, Aug. 6. The film reveals how the UFC’s extreme weight-cutting regimen Montaño endured to make weight for a 2018 fight with Valentina Shevchenko nearly cost her life.
“Warrior Spirit” examines the dark side of the largest MMA promotional organization in the world, the multi-billion-dollar, Las Vegas-based UFC whose broadcasts air worldwide on ESPN and pay-per-view. Portions of the film were shot on location at the UFC Performance Institute in Las Vegas.
Exclusive footage from “Warrior Spirit” has been featured on the award-winning HBO show “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” as part of a segment about the dangers of extreme weight-cutting. The film also examines other issues surrounding the MMA industry, such as fighter pay, insurance and unionization.

The film represents the fourth feature-length documentary by award-winning documentary filmmaker and director Landon Dyksterhouse. Executive producers on the film are Jason Bowles, Nancy Murphy-Bowles and Landon Dyksterhouse.
