LAS VEGAS (September 2023) – The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its upcoming October programs, including “Noir Bar: Film Classics and Cocktails with Eddie Muller,” “Bugsy’s Shadow: The Race Wire, the Flamingo and the Rise of the Mob in Las Vegas” and “Racing and Racketeers: Motorsport and Organized Crime in Las Vegas.”

Noir Bar: Film Classics and Cocktails with Eddie Muller
Date: Thursday, Oct. 5
Time: 7 to 8:30 p.m. followed by a book signing.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor. To purchase tickets, click here.
Cost: $30 for guests (includes Museum admission) and $20 for Museum Members and Donors.
Description: Eddie Muller, film noir expert and cocktail connoisseur, will discuss a range of classic movies, including some with Mob themes, while demonstrating how to create a few of his own craft cocktails. Muller, host of Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) “Noir Alley,” will provide insights and anecdotes about all-time-great noir films, along with a carefully curated lineup of noir-inspired cocktails. A book signing of “Noir Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir” will follow this program. Patrons must be 21 years of age or older to participate in the event’s cocktail tasting. Valid government-issued identification showing proof of age will be required upon entry.
Speaker:

• Eddie Muller is the host of “Noir Alley” on TCM. Additionally, he writes novels, biographies, movie histories, plays, short stories and films. He also programs film festivals, curates museums, designs books and provides commentary in all media. He produces and hosts NOIR CITY, a 20-year-old Bay Area film festival, and founded the Film Noir Foundation.

Bugsy’s Shadow: The Race Wire, the Flamingo and the Rise of the Mob in Las Vegas
Date: Wednesday, Oct. 18
Time: 7 to 8 p.m. followed by a book signing.

Description: ​​Historian Larry Gragg, author of the most authoritative biography of Bugsy Siegel, has dug further into the Mob’s origins in Las Vegas with his new book, “Bugsy’s Shadow: Moe Sedway, ‘Bugsy’ Siegel, and the Birth of Organized Crime in Las Vegas.” Sedway was Siegel’s righthand man in Las Vegas for years before a falling out that culminated in Siegel’s murder. During this event, guests will learn more about Sedway, an often forgotten man, and his rightful dues as a pivotal figure in Las Vegas history. A book signing will follow this program.

• Larry Gragg is the Curators’ Distinguished Teaching Professor Emeritus at Missouri University of Science and Technology, where he served as chair of the history and political science department for 17 years. He has won more than 20 outstanding teaching awards and has authored 10 books.

Racing and Racketeers: Motorsport and Organized Crime in Las Vegas

Description: ​​As Formula 1 returns to Las Vegas for the first time in 40 years, this program will explore the history of auto racing in the entertainment capital of the world – and the Mob’s role in making it happen. Racing historian Randy Cannon and retired casino executive Bill Weinberger will look back at the Stardust International Raceway in the 1960s and the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in the early 1980s and discuss the ties between organized crime and past eras of Las Vegas racing glory. A book signing will follow this program.
Speakers:

• Randall Cannon is an author and journalist as well as a former motocross racer and regional motocross champion. He spent his youth in Las Vegas during the golden age of Mob influence in Nevada gambling interests. He is the author of two books: “Stardust International Raceway – Motorsports Meets the Mob in Vegas” and “Caesars Palace Grand Prix – Las Vegas, Organized Crime, and the Pinnacle of Motorsport.”
• Bill Weinberger transferred from Caesars World, Inc. to the resort hotel in 1977 and became vice president of casino marketing. Among his duties was bringing Formula 1 racing to Las Vegas as the president of the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in 1981 and 1982.
