THE MOB MUSEUM ANNOUNCES MARCH PROGRAMS, PROMOTIONS

LAS VEGAS (March 2022) The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its roster of public programs for March.

It’s a Woman’s World: Crime Scene Investigation in Las Vegas
Date: Saturday, March 5
Time: 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Location: Inside the historic courtroom on the second floor. A livestream of the presentation will be available on the Museum’s website. To RSVP, click here.
Cost: Free for attendees.
Description: Crime scene investigation plays a vital role in building criminal cases and women stand at the forefront of this fast-growing field. In recognition of Women’s History Month, The Mob Museum will host a panel discussion featuring leaders within the crime scene investigations section of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. The panel will discuss the evolution of forensic science, challenges facing forensic evidence in criminal courts and career paths for prospective CSI professionals.
Speakers:

  • Stephanie Thi, crime scene analyst supervisor for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
  • Stephanie Smissen, senior crime scene analyst for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
  • Alondra Flores, crime scene analyst II for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
  • Danielle Courtney, senior crime scene analyst for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department
  • Shakala Alvaranga, director of public programs for The Mob Museum and the moderator for the event

The public program, It’s a Woman’s World: Crime Scene Investigation in Las Vegas, is made possible by a partnership with NV Energy Foundation’s Diversity Program Initiative. The Making of “The Godfather”: The 50th Anniversary of a Mob Masterpiece
Date: Wednesday, March 16
Time: 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Cost: $50 per person. A 10 percent discount is available for Museum Members
Description: When “The Godfather” premiered in March of 1972, it was an instant success with critics and audiences alike. The following year, it won three Academy Awards, including Best Picture. It has become widely regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made and its impact on the culture is far reaching. The discussion also will dig into the real-life Mob’s involvement with the film.
Speakers:

  • Johnny Martino, noted for his role as Paulie Gatto in “The Godfather,” will explore the making of the film.
  • Geoff Schumacher, vice president of exhibits and programs for The Mob Museum and the moderator for the evening’s event.

The Rise and Fall of El Chapo: The Untold Story of Mexico’s Most Notorious Drug Lord
Date: Wednesday, March 23
Time: 7 to 8 p.m.

Description: Before Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman became the most wanted man in Mexico, he was a member of a plucky narcotics start-up. His criminal career skyrocketed after taking control of the Sinaloa Cartel, which grew into the world’s most powerful drug trafficking syndicate. Based on years of investigative, on-the-ground reporting, journalist Noah Hurowitz will reveal El Chapo’s rapid rise to power and eventual life sentence in a U.S. prison.

Speaker: Noah Hurowitz is a journalist based in New York City. He covered the trial of El Chapo for Rolling Stone and his work has also appeared in The Village Voice, The Baffler, New York Magazine and many more notable publications. “El Chapois” is the author’s first book.
