LAS VEGAS (November 2023) – The Sin Sity Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the renowned community organization dedicated to advocating for AIDS awareness, proudly announces a weekend of commemorations in honor of World AIDS Day on Friday, Dec. 1. On Nov. 30, the Sin Sity Sisters, in collaboration with The Center and acclaimed photographer Matthew Michael McCarthy, will debut a compelling photo exhibit titled “The Sisters Portrait Project.” This collection of 12 evocative portraits serves as a tribute to the relentless efforts of the Sisters in educating the community about HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention. The unveiling of this specially curated exhibit will take place at 5:30 p.m. at The Nunnery located at 900 E. Karen Ave.
The heart of the Sisters World AIDS Day activations lies in the sincere belief that art and activism intertwine to create a powerful force for change. “The Sisters Portrait Project” encapsulates the essence of the Sisters’ ongoing commitment to fostering awareness, dismantling stigmas, and advocating for the prevention and understanding of HIV/AIDS within the community.
On Dec. 1, the Sisters will extend their advocacy beyond the gallery walls with Bar Ministry, a Bar Crawl to all LGBTQ+ Bars in Las Vegas. Beginning at 6 p.m., each bar visited will serve as a poignant backdrop for a vigil – a moment of reflection to remember those whose lives have been touched by the disease. The schedule, begins at The Nunnery (TBD), aligns with the Sisters’ mission to meet people where they are, cultivating a direct and impactful connection with community members.
Continuing their commemoration on Saturday, Dec. 2, the Sisters will host a stirring display of unity with a human red ribbon at The Nunnery. From 12 to 4 p.m., attendees are encouraged to join the ribbon, enjoy refreshments and stand together in remembrance of friends and family who have succumbed to HIV/AIDS. The red ribbon, a symbol synonymous with the global fight against the disease, will be brought to life, underscoring the significance of solidarity in the face of the epidemic. Its loops of red serve as a visual reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat the epidemic, encourage safe practices and remember those who have lost their lives. By incorporating the red ribbon into the human ribbon at The Nunnery, the Sisters aim to breathe life into this symbol, emphasizing the importance of community and compassion.
As the Sin Sity Sisters activate these events, they strive to honor the memories of those lost, ignite conversations about HIV/AIDS, and foster a sense of community resilience. For more information, visit www.sinsitysisters.org.
