WHAT:
On Friday, June 14, SAHARA Las Vegas hosted the 2024 Meruelo Family Scholarship award presentation. As part of the property’s SAHARA Cares initiative, six deserving dependents of SAHARA Las Vegas Team Members were awarded scholarships. Las Vegas student Faith Jotojot received $5,000 while students Blessy Ariel Jotojot, Angelina Lourdes Pezzi, Shae Styles, Jonathon Saavedra and Helena Saavedra each received $3,000.

During the event, all six scholarship winners were presented with certificates by chief vision and purpose officer Alexis Meruelo and general manager Paul Hobson. A jumbo check in the amount of $40,000 was also presented to SAHARA Las Vegas and Grand Sierra Resort which included the total of $20,000 specifically for the winning dependents of SAHARA Las Vegas Team Members.

The Meruelo family’s focus on education has fueled both companies’ community impact over the years. Since 2018, Grand Sierra Resort and SAHARA Las Vegas have contributed more than $2 million dollars to the AAA Foundation funding hundreds of scholarships for underprivileged students in Nevada. For 2024-2025, the two companies have committed a combined $550,000 to this cause.

“By increasing our scholarship fund for the third consecutive year, the Meruelo family remains committed to making education accessible for the families of SAHARA Las Vegas Team Members,” said Meruelo. “We are excited to see how these scholarships will positively shape the futures of these outstanding students.”
