LAS VEGAS (February 26, 2025) – AREA15, the immersive and experiential art and entertainment district, announces one of Burning Man’s most iconic large-scale art pieces—the famous Boeing 747—is now onsite at the expanded district. Measuring 150 feet in length and 60 feet in width, the Boeing 747 will be reimagined as a one-of-a-kind cocktail and dining experience. With a future capacity of more than 1,300 guests, the repurposed 747 is set to become a groundbreaking addition to AREA15’s collection of world-class art-inspired attractions.
Building off the momentum of Universal Horror Unleashed, Meow Wolf’s Omega Mart and the Museum of Ice Cream, the Boeing 747 reinforces AREA15’s legacy of bold, immersive art and experiential entertainment offerings. AREA15 will unveil further details about this exciting new destination experience this summer.
Following its exhibition at Burning Man in 2017, the Boeing 747 was purchased by the late Zappos chief executive officer Tony Hsieh, who originally brought it to Las Vegas with plans to repurpose it as a party venue. In 2022, Joshua Levine, the late founder of Fired Up Management and original curator of AREA15’s open-air Art Island gallery, brokered its acquisition by AREA15. Its new permanent home underscores the district’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of immersive entertainment and large-scale interactive art. As one of the few preserved examples of the iconic Boeing 747 available to the public globally—amid the decline in the aircraft’s use for air travel—the fuselage joins AREA15’s growing collection of open-air art installations, designed to inspire and engage guests at every visit.
As one of the country’s most audacious destinations for festival-inspired, large-scale art, AREA15 serves as a dynamic physical showroom where guests can explore more than a dozen world-famous pieces up close and at no cost. Three-dimensional works throughout AREA15 are known for their interactivity and monumental size. Visitors are encouraged to engage with these installations, discovering countless photo opportunities along the way.
Originally conceptualized by Big Imagination Foundation as the largest mobile art car ever created, the Boeing 747 represented a radical feat of engineering and creativity, providing festivalgoers with a transformative environment inside its repurposed fuselage where the original pulley and sound systems are still intact. The 747 jumbo jet was the first widebody plane to be engineered and, when it began commercial service in 1970, made international travel accessible for more people.
Now, at its new home at AREA15, this piece of aviation history will be preserved as a reimagined, next-generation event space where every visitor can experience it. This new iteration will fuse the spirit of its Burning Man origins with cutting-edge experiences, immersive art and ticketed events.
“The iconic journey that this aircraft has taken symbolized the monumental expression of the fusion between art, technology and experiential entertainment that defines AREA15,” said Winston Fisher, chief executive officer of AREA15. “Once the centerpiece of the world’s most avant-garde festival, this installation will now be permanently integrated into the AREA15 ecosystem, offering an entirely new way to experience nightlife and events in Las Vegas.”
The arrival of the Boeing 747 marks a major milestone in the AREA15 20-acre district expansion, which is already 60% pre-leased and will soon welcome a lineup of boundary-pushing attractions, including Universal Horror Unleashed, the Museum of Ice Cream’s largest flagship location, Felix & Paul Studios’ Interstellar Arc, The Escape Game, iFLY Indoor Skydiving, Dolls Kill and more.
Since its opening in 2020, AREA15 has continuously redefined entertainment in Las Vegas, blending immersive art, experiential attractions and live events to create an ever-evolving playground for the unexpected. With the Boeing 747’s arrival, the expanded district further solidifies its reputation as the world’s most dynamic destination for experiential entertainment and art.
