LAS VEGAS (March 2023) – The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, announces its April program titled Voices of Juvenile Justice with Photographer Richard Ross and Chef Jeff Henderson. Additionally, The Underground speakeasy and distillery invites guests to enjoy its 5^th anniversary celebration as well as weekly live music, cocktail specials and more.

Voices of Juvenile Justice with Photographer Richard Ross and Chef Jeff Henderson

Description: ​Best known for his compelling Juvenile-In-Justice series, photographer Richard Ross will share his first-hand encounters with youths in the system and the effects it has on their health, well-being and futures. Las Vegas’ own chef Jeff Henderson of the Chef Jeff Project will discuss his own experiences in incarceration and how his program, The Chef Jeff Project, provides opportunities for system-impacted teens through culinary job training. Guests will also enjoy a special tasting and the chance to see Ross’ poignant work.    ​

Speakers:

• Richard Ross is an artist, activist, photographer and distinguished research professor of art based in Santa Barbara, California. As the creator of Juvenile-in-Justice—a collection of images, interviews, audio documents and texts created over a dozen years— Ross has drawn from the lives of more than 1,000 kids, highlighting the placement and treatment of American juveniles housed by law in facilities that treat, confine, punish, assist and, occasionally, harm them. Ross has been the recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, the Annie E. Casey Foundation, MacArthur and the Center for Cultural Innovation. Ross was awarded both Fulbright and Guggenheim fellowships.
• Chef Jeff Henderson started his culinary career in the unlikeliest of places, prison. While serving nearly ten years he discovered his passion for cooking which led to executive chef positions at some of the top hotels and resorts in the country. He founded the Chef Jeff Project in 2020 with a mission to change the lives of young, disadvantaged and system-impacted men and women in the Las Vegas community. Henderson’s inspiring story has been featured on “Oprah’s Lifeclass,” “Good Morning America,” “Today Show,” ABC World News Tonight, CNN, “The Steve Harvey Show” and in major publications such as The New York Times, USA Today, People Magazine, The Washington Post and many others. When Henderson is not traveling the world teaching his life-changing lessons, he resides in Las Vegas with his wife Stacy and their five children.

National Beer Day

Description: On National Beer Day, guests are invited to enjoy The Underground’s house-brewed beer, the Big Al Ale. The Underground’s newest release is a medium bodied tart cherry lager with aromas of Montmorency cherries and a light hoppy accent. The Underground 5^th Anniversary Celebration
Date: Friday, April 21
Time: 5 p.m. to 12 a.m.
Location: The Underground speakeasy and distillery
Cost: Admission is free; food and beverage are an additional cost. Guests must be 21 years or older and use the secret passcode “Plead the Fifth” to gain entry.
Description: The Underground invites guests to don their finest 1920s-inspired apparel and join its unforgettable 5^th anniversary celebration. Visitors can enjoy live entertainment by the Dixie Flats from 5 to 8 p.m. and Red Penny Arcade from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. To commemorate the milestone occasion, The Underground will be giving away exciting prizes to five guests throughout the evening. Prizes may include a private tour of the distillery, free Museum admission and more. Meanwhile, attendees can also enjoy specialty anniversary cocktails available this evening only, including:

• Shhh – Howler Head Banana Bourbon, allspice, clove and brown sugar.
• Plead the Fifth – Appleton Reserve Rum, Aperol, Curacao, lime juice, pineapple juice, Falernum and bitters.

Description: In commemoration of its five-year anniversary, The Underground speakeasy will add an array of new cocktails and shareable bites to its tempting menu.

New cocktails include:

• Liberty’s Last Word $15 – House-distilled Cinn-City Moonshine, Luxardo, Chartreuse and lime.
• Everything’s Jake $15 – House-distilled Ginger Jake Moonshine, chile liqueur, lemon, jalapeño honey, bitters and egg whites.
• Tequileros Cooler $14 – Tequila, mezcal, triple sec hibiscus, cucumber, lime and mint.
• Golden Indulgence $14 – Cognac, banana liqueur, chocolate, brown sugar, cream and nutmeg.
• A Wild Hare $14 – Rye, carrot, allspice, sage, brown-butter syrup and bitters.

New shareable bites include:

• Spinach and artichoke dip with toasted pita for $9.

Description: With roots dating back to 19^th century New Orleans, The Blackthorn is one of the few classic cocktails highlighting Irish whiskey. This tempting libation includes sweet vermouth, aromatic bitters, Absinthe, Irish whiskey and a lemon swath. Become a Member and receive these fun monthly specials, too.

The Underground is an immersive Prohibition history exhibition featuring a speakeasy, distillery and private VIP room in the basement of The Mob Museum, the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement. Artifacts from the 1920s and 1930s tell the intriguing story of the Prohibition era, which not only saw a proliferation of bootlegged booze and the meteoric growth of organized crime outfits but also had a profound, lasting impact on society, specifically making way for modern cocktail culture.
