Created by Marvel legend Stan Lee, writer Arnold Drake, artist Gene Colan and editor Roy Thomas, the original Guardians of the Galaxy began their spacefaring careers in 1969 in the pages of Marvel Super-Heroes #18. In 2008, writers Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, artist Paul Pelletier and editor Bill Rosemann revised the team, this time comprised of previously created but unrelated sci-fi characters. This comic book series, starring the ragtag line-up of Star-Lord, Rocket Raccoon, Drax, Gamora, Groot, Mantis, Quasar and Adam Warlock served as the inspiration for the films by Marvel Studios.
